The villas have been
designed by ‘Gfab’, an
internationally acclaimed architectural
company, established in 1999 by Gary
Fell who worked in a senior capacity
on the Four Seasons Resort Sayan,
Bali. The Bali-based company now boasts
an impressive portfolio of aesthetically
beautiful, high quality villas, resorts,
boutique hotels, and private homes
in Australia, Indonesia, Thailand,
Cambodia, Vietnam and Spain.
By using the natural elements of the
land, the architects have generated
solutions that blend style with nature,
thereby promoting the spirit of ecological
responsibility with minimal impact
on the environment. Great care has
been taken to utilise the best possible
natural and local materials suitable
for modern living, including white
limestone, red-hued merbau timber,
terrazzo pebble washed floors, and
‘Paras Kerobokan’, the
bedrock of the small creek that borders
the site. The villas blend into the
landscape, giving the impression that
they have been carved from the existing
rock base. Space and light are key
elements due to the application of
flat roofs and the avoidance of large
overhanging pitched roof structures,
commonly associated with Balinese
architecture. Moreover, the creation
of roof top gardens and roof top ponds
ensures that there is no urban or
‘built-up’ feeling to
the estate, and that no villa is overlooked.
The only visible elements are the
rooftop gardens and water gardens,
which serve the double purpose of
being aesthetically pleasing to the
eye while, at the same time, providing
an energy-saving natural cooling system.
The open living areas are therefore
cooled passively by evaporation, reducing
the need for mechanical ventilation
and maintaining the feeling of openness
that is synonymous with tropical living.
Further energy saving benefits are
gained through maximised natural light,
natural ventilation, low cost and
low maintenance saltwater chlorination
systems, water recycling and storage
systems.
Furthermore, Kali Uma has been equipped
with the practical, luxurious and
hi-tech facilities that are required
for permanent living, not just for
holidaying. Each of the ten villas
is uniquely different in its shape
and layout. Each comprises two or
three spacious air-conditioned bedrooms
with en-suite garden bathrooms, a
separate TV and audio room, a kitchen,
and an expansive open-plan living
and dining areas extending into a
private garden with ample space for
children to play, complete with a
relaxation ‘bale’ pavilion
and a large, 15-metre private swimming
pools. Built in a contemporary style,
the design features high ceilings
and full height sliding glass doors,
combining air conditioned comfort
with open air living around the pool.
Elegant finishes incorporate superior
imported sanitary ware, lock sets
and door hardware. Each property is
equipped, if required, with wide screen
plasma TVs, wireless high speed Internet
access large kitchen appliances high
quality furniture, bed linens, towels,
