The Kali Uma Estate is hidden away
in the rice fields, close to the traditional
village of Umalas and just ten minutes’
drive from Batu Belig beach on Bali’s
south western coast. This out of town
setting presents the double attraction
of being relatively close to everything
that guests might need, while also
offering visitors a privileged insight
into the traditions of rural Bali.
Cows are herded through the fields,
the sound of ritual music is carried
on the breeze, and colourful Hindu
temple processions are an integral
part of daily life. Bordered by a
small tree-lined creek, this beautiful
outlook is enhanced on clear days
by spectacular views of the mountains
in the early mornings and evenings.
Yet, the trendy Seminyak area, with
its wide choice of international restaurants
– including the famous ‘KuDéTa’,
‘Warisan’, ‘Living
Room’, ‘Hu’u’
and ‘La Lucciola’ –
together with a plethora of chic cocktail
bars, exciting nightclubs, lavish
spas and elegant shops, is a mere
ten minutes’ drive away.
Most of the restaurants offer a home
delivery service, and a daily supply
of freshly baked bread is delivered
by the French patisserie ‘Café
Moka’, a branch of which is
almost on the doorstep of the estate.
Nearby supermarkets include ‘Bintang’
and the popular ‘Bali Deli’.
Meanwhile, the sweeping beach at Seminyak,
renowned for its world-class surf
breaks and panoramic coastline views,
is the place where the local community
gather every evening to watch the
legendary sunsets.

For horse lovers, the
Umalas Equestrian Centre is less than
two kilometres away, offering everything
from sunset beach rides to dressage
tuition and riding lessons for young
children. Nirwana Golf and Country
Club, one of Asia’s finest golf
courses, designed by Greg Norman,
is a twenty minute car journey. Set
amid sparkling rice terraces, the
spectacular greens overlook the Indian
Ocean and the dramatic wave-lashed
Tanah Lot sea temple.
The Canggu Community School, presenting
quality education for children between
the ages of 4 and 12, is located in
the neighbouring village of Brawa,
and the Bali International School,
presenting syllabuses for both primary
and secondary education, is thirty
minutes’ drive away in Sanur.
Adjoining the Canggu Community School,
the Canggu Club is Bali’s first
and only international private members’
club; offering sports, social and
leisure facilities, including a state-of-the
art gym, a 25-metre swimming pool
and a tennis & squash centre.
Preferential membership rates are
available to Kali Uma owners.
The estate is also convenient for
all of the island’s main shopping
malls and tourist attractions, and
just thirty minutes’ drive from
Ngurah Rai International Airport.
